Inter Arts Matrix

On an ongoing basis the organization offers public performances exhibitions lectures workshops. We support the creation of interdisciplinary works of art from idea development through creation workshops rehearsals and production to public presentation publications and outreach. We continue to offer grant writing co-working days and informal support to artists for project development.

Ongoing program

While the core operations of the organization did not change during the year there were several specific projects that were being developed this year as follows: A Hole in the Ground: This was a sixth month long outdoor public creation project for ten artists in Kitchener's Sandhills Park. The project meditated on mortality the land and our relationship to local geography. The project was chronicled through writing and video. The documentary film screening was held toward the end of the fiscal year. Inter Arts Matrix continues to work closely with these artists and foster their future career development. Playful Sessions: Funded by the Ontario Arts Council and curated by Marie LeBlanc Flanagan we hosted a workshop by and for artists who use digital games as a means for artistic expression. Renovations on Studio 38: Electrical upgrades installation of track lighting sky light repair window and door removal painting of ceiling and walls took place Studio 38 (Globe Studios) This initiative was supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation Capital grant and Canada Cultural Spaces fund. Significant equipment purchases were also a part of this project. Studio 38 is now a functional space for arts events including exhibitions video screenings performances talks panel discussion and hybrid events. The Creek Collective: Beginning with residency work in the summer of 2023 associated with the A Hole in the Ground project a new group called The Creek Collective was formed. The group is engaged in artistic responses to the re-naturalization of Schneider Creek. With financial support various sources including the Region of Waterloo Community Foundation IAM grant called HyperLocal the Creek Collective hosted programming at multiple organizations across the Region in late spring of 2024. The original three-member Creek Collective has expanded to include a local chapter. Studio space rentals: In response to the identified need for affordable space in Waterloo Region Inter Arts Matrix began to publicize the availability of Studio 38 space for affordable fees to artists and arts organizations.
